With the latest iOS 18 update, Snapchat users will gain a new level of convenience by accessing the app’s camera directly from the iPhone lock screen. This new feature takes advantage of Apple’s expanded customization options, which allow users to replace the standard flashlight and camera icons on the lock screen with a variety of other tools and shortcuts. Among these new options is the ability to launch the Snapchat camera instantly, making it faster than ever to capture moments on the go without unlocking the phone or navigating through apps.

Snapchat Newsroom stated that by tapping the button will launch Snapchat’s “Camera Only” mode. This will, technically, let the users create a Snap, but there’s a major caveat. The lock screen allows users to take photos, but not add filters or post anything. For that, they will have to unlock the phone with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode and open the actual app.

This new feature will roll out through an app update expected later this week, but users will need to upgrade their devices to iOS 18.0 or the upcoming iOS 18.1 to access it. To enable the Snapchat camera on the lock screen, simply press and hold the lock screen, tap “Customize,” and follow the prompts to replace the default flashlight or camera icons with the Snapchat camera shortcut. This allows users to open Snapchat’s camera instantly, making it easier to capture spontaneous moments.

In addition to lock screen customization, iOS 18 brings another handy improvement for Snapchat users. The update allows the phone’s volume buttons to function as camera controls within the app. Pressing either volume button will now snap a photo while holding one down records a video. This feature mirrors the controls of traditional cameras, providing a more intuitive way to take Snaps without needing to tap the screen.

These enhancements align with Snapchat’s mission to streamline content creation, encouraging users to share moments effortlessly. With quicker access through the lock screen and physical button integration, the app becomes even more convenient for capturing photos and videos in real-time, helping Snapchat maintain its competitive edge in the fast-paced social media landscape.
