Last week, Snapchat started gradually rolling out new filters based on face recognition. These quietly released filters are able to recognize the subject of your snaps and offer a relevant sticker or border.
While we wait for the much cultured Snapchat’s redesigned update, this seems to be a pretty good move for the app in terms of encouraging engagement for the users and advertisers.
You will see the new filters automatically coming up on your filter carousel right after your snap is taken. It is needed to choose a specific category before the snap that will work as a lead to the filters. The categories so far included are food, sports, concerts, beaches, and pets, as told by a Snapchat spokesperson.
Alongside being passionate about filters, Snapchat users provide a massive revenue source for the app. Brands can now sponsor filters that get activated based on the location or interest of a user.
Snapchat intends to move up the competition ladder by being contextually relevant for the users as much as possible. CEO Evan Spiegel said, “One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback. As a result, we are currently redesigning our application to make it easier to use.“
He further added that they found a way to preserve and enhance friendly communications. Snapchat has its focus on preserving the intimacy and frequency of the same.
