When we heard information about newest unannounced IP of Bend Studio, the excitement was palpable amongst the gamers. For us here in Techgenyz, however, our curiosity was piqued, and our article even questioned the game’s potential to survive in a market filled with first-person shooters. Sadly it seems that Sony had been having those same feelings as news arrived that the company has cancelled the unannounced game.
Project Development and Vision
Bend Studio had been working on this project since 2022 and promised to build on the systems of its previous open-world survival game Days Gone, which was much liked among the fans. The canceled AAA game was supposed to have a militaristic theme and a third-person perspective akin to what we would see in the studio’s previous title and series “Syphon Filter”.
Reasons Behind the Cancellation
The cancellation of the title is not something that could not have been foreseen however, as the failure of live-stream first-person shooters in drawing player’s attention could have discouraged Sony from allowing the creation of another failed title. Even still, the news came as a major shock to all those fans who saw potential in Bend Studio games.
Past Setbacks and Optimism
The studio seems to have been going through a rough patch as this is not the first game cancelled. Days Gone was supposed to receive a sequel which was cancelled due to the title not being able to meet Sony’s profit margins, even though the game itself received a huge fan following due to its impressive gameplay and engaging story. Even through this, it looks like Bend Studios has an optimistic outlook as Kevin Mcallister, the Community Manager of Bend Studio stated that the company still looks forward to “creating cool s***”.
Future Outlook
Bend Studio’s most recent project cancellation turned out to be among the several high-profile live-service games that PlayStation actually removed. Even under such adverse conditions, Bend Studio remains committed to creating engaging games. The developers have expressed a lot of confidence in their technical and visionary skills, which match their new creative aspirations. As the dust settles, the future holds promise for the studio, as the gaming community still holds them to high standards. The studio’s optimism shines as a glimmer of hope amid this uncertainty and hopefully, the fans can expect exciting future projects that capture the studio’s vision.
