A leak by tipster Max J. suggests that Sony could include a whopping total of six rear cameras in a new Xperia smartphone they are developing. These six rear cameras are also said to be supported by a pair of sensors at the front of the smartphone. The number of cameras in the device seems to indicate that it might possibly be a flagship phone.

The leaked render indicates that the cameras would be arranged in three columns, one below the other, in a row of two sensors in each column; however, this render is just a mock-up and Sony’s plans for this smartphone remains cryptic.

It can be presumed that the sextet camera module would feature a super-wide angle camera with the alternative of a telephoto camera, along with a Time-of-Flight sensor, and possibly two monochrome sensors for enhancement of photos captured in low light.

The smartphone under development is also expected to feature two front-facing cameras, presumably a primary sensor and a wide-angle camera.

The design of Sony’s new smartphone is as of now incomprehensible but it can be expected that Sony would include a 21:9 display that was seen in Xperia 1 and Xperia 10, along with a storage of 8GB RAM and 128GB, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Sony’s probable flagship smartphone is expected to be launched some time in late 2019 and early 2020.

In recent times, smartphone makers have stepped up their game with respect to the camera set up in their respective smartphones. LG has included a triple rear camera module on the LG V50 ThinQ, Samsung is expected to release the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 Pro with four rear cameras, and Nokia launched its Nokia 9 PureView that consists of five rear cameras early this year.
