First announced back in January, Sony officially confirmed the upgrade of its camera management application, the so-called PlayMemories Mobile, promising delivery of new features and a rename for this app.
Now called Imaging Edge Mobile, Sony launched the new application that has an identical interface to the previous version, and promises to facilitate the migration of its user base without sudden changes, resuming the learning curve to use it. It uses artificial intelligence-based object recognition to detect and follow subjects through the frame with unprecedented accuracy.
It offers remote image and video capture with a live view and batch and continuous background transfer of files from your camera to your phone. It also records location information and can notify you when an update for your camera is available.
Further, Sony has also launched a new Transfer and Tagging application which is designed as an add-on for continuous FTP transfers in the background. This app also gives photographers hands-free voice input and shortcuts for captions and tagging.
Sony also announced in January that it will be following up v5.0 with v6.0 that, expanding Eye AF to include animal eyes. You can expect that firmware sometime this summer. Imaging Edge Mobile and the Transfer & Tagging add-on apps are now available for Android and iOS users through their respective app stores.
