Today, the Japanese banking services, Sumishin SBI Net Bank, has officially announced that its debit card (Mastercard) is now accessible on Apple Pay from April 18, 2022.

According to the banking services, users can now use their iPhone or Apple Watch to enter a convenience store without handing a debit card (real card) to a clerk, touching a payment terminal to enter a PIN, or exchanging banknotes or coins for user-friendly convenience.

Also, Sumishin SBI Net Bank debit cardholders will be able to make non-contact, safe, and secure cashless payments at supermarkets, cafeterias, drug stores, fast food, and restaurants among others.

Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service developed by Apple Inc. that allows users to pay in person, via iOS apps, and on the web using Safari. It works on iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, and Macs. It isn’t available on any client device that isn’t an Apple product.

Recently, most banking services around the world have been transforming their banking services into digital ones by allowing their debit card to be accessible on Apple Pay, owing to its prominence in digital services. Earlier this month, we reported that PayPay cards have become accessible on Apple Pay since April 1.

The Japanese banking services was founded in September 2007 by SBI Holdings and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank as a specialized Internet bank and has progressively extended its operations to become one of Japan’s largest Internet banks, with over 4 million accounts, JPY 5.5 trillion in deposits, and a total of more than JPY 6 trillion in mortgage loans since its inception.

Also, the bank is committed to business operations based on the Customer-centric Principle, such as improving the quality of its banking services, enhancing security, and enhancing the UI/UX of its website and applications, with the goal of Delivering a New Experience to Customers through the provision of innovative financial services using IT.
