Samsung and other smartphone manufacturers have come invested in and have come up with a foldable smartphone. Now another tech company, Microsoft, is jumping the bandwagon too; however, from the looks of it, Microsoft’s concept of a foldable smartphone differs from that of Samsung or even Google.
Microsoft has labeled its Surface Duo as a “dual-screen foldable”. But when Surface Duo was launched, the users were not convinced, neither were they impressed. Microsoft’s new Surface Duo 2 could deliver on its previous promise, and a few leaks regarding the Surface Duo 2 indicate that its launch is imminent.
The main issue that users took with the Surface Duo was mainly with its hardware. If the dissatisfaction was associated with the software, it could have been changed with future patches, fixes, and upgrades, but that is not the case with hardware. When it was first announced almost two years back, it already comprised of hardware that was less than recent, so when the Surface Duo was finally launched a year later, the hardware became dated, to say the least. But as per the new leaks regarding the rumored Surface Duo 2, it will have up-to-date specs.
This directly points to using a Snapdragon 888 at the very least and an improved RAM as well. The single main camera does not necessarily need a companion, but an upgraded camera is expected. Having said all of that, the nature of the hardware still depends on when the product will be shipped and launched.
A few trusted sources have claimed that the Surface Duo 2 might actually be launched this Fall, somewhere around September or October. This may also mean that the Surface Duo 2 would not come with Android 12 because of the shipping issues. But if Microsoft actually launches a better version of the software, users might overlook the exclusion of Android 12.
