- Tesla’s top-selling EV, the Model Y has finally been revealed with a new and refreshed ‘Cyber’ look.
- The new vehicle does not just boast a completely new exterior design, but an updated sound system, a “Launch Edition” trim with limited badging and materials, a larger capacity for cargo, and many other changes.
- The most underrated feature of the EV, amidst the many upgrades and changes, might just be the color option, although the scene has left fans and consumers divided.
The long-awaited and overdue Tesla Model Y finally made its debut in China and other Asia-Pacific markets. The project hailed as “Juniper”, was sighted numerous times in public as the prototypes were being tested on roads globally. Tesla made claims that the car was “Completely Redesigned”, but some of it remains the same, especially its sides.
What is “Juniper”?
The name Juniper that was given to the car was a codename for the prototype being tested, as on the Tesla website the name was nowhere to be found. Instead, the vehicle was titled simply as the Model Y. However, with the Chinese debut, we now know that the available Model Y has been titled as the “Launch Series” with a limited availability release.
Exterior Design Changes
The major changes that were noted in the exterior of the EV include brand-new super-thin headlights, that connect the car’s hood with a light strip. The rear on the other hand sports the tail lights essentially tied together with a red light bar. Fans with super keen eyesight also noted the presence of a brand new addition; a front bumper camera. All these changes follow the company’s autonomous Cybercab concept, and the Model Y’s similarities with the Cybertruck cannot be denied.
Colours Schemes
Tesla seems to have made available 5 color schemes for the Chinese and Australian markets, the only differences being the known names of the colors. These colors include Pearl White Multi-Coat, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver, Ultra Red, and the new Glacier Blue replacing the previous Deep Blue Metallic. Another eye-catching variant was seen on the prototypes that were being tested. A Pure Black color scheme was seen on most of them, with the sole exception of an Ultra Red prototype that was probably a Performance Variant.

Now, the launch dates have been varied according to regions. In China, deliveries are to be expected by March while Australians will have to wait until May. The price on the other hand is another topic. The beloved, older Model Y was priced at 60, 872 AUD or $37,693 for starting drive away. The starting price for the newer version now is 68,770 AUD or $42,596, a whopping 12 percent increase.
The long-awaited vehicle has made tremendous ripples following the refreshment of Tesla’s most famous cars. After the release of the Cybertruck, fans and consumers alike have been talking about the new Model Y. Opinions on the car are certainly divided, following both praise and criticism. How the EV will perform, we shall only know once it has been fully released.
