The Blood of Dawnwalker is an upcoming action role-playing game set in medieval Europe during the 14th century, a period plagued by war and a plague known as the Black Death. The protagonist of the game, Coen finds himself caught in a struggle between humans and vampires after being turned into a creature known as the “Dawnwalker”. As Coen progresses through his story, the players are expected to navigate a world which according to the developers is not “black and white”, and therefore must discover for themselves who they believe is the real monster in this forsaken world.
Similarities with the Witcher III
What has drawn the gamer’s attention towards “The Blood of Dawnwalker” is that the studio developing the game Rebel Wolves is founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, a former director of the acclaimed “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and also head of production for “Cyberpunk 2077”. The similarities between “The Blood of Dawnwalker” and “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” are many, be it the medieval dark fantasy worlds they are set in or the complex characters that live in these worlds. Not to forget the two powerful protagonists, with luscious long hair and captivating colored eyes.
Game Mechanics and Day-Night Cycle
Jokes aside in the 20 minutes of the game reveal the developers explained some of the game mechanics focusing on the day and night cycle. Coen during the day will supposedly be left to fend for himself and combat his enemies using only a sword and dark magic but is more vulnerable. However, in the night, the full capacity of his powers is unleashed, and rightly so as he has to face greater and more powerful threats that demand full use of his vampiric abilities. The night and day cycle also invites the players to see the world in different ways as the vampiric abilities will allow Coen to explore previously unreachable places and discover areas hidden in the day.
The World Order
The developers also let go of some information regarding the world they are building. The vampires of this game led by its leader Brencis seem to have a goal of ruling the “valley” and bringing order which was lost. Unfortunately, this order and protection come at a price as the vampires seemingly have put a blood tax that they collect from the humans who they see as no more than cattle. Coen indebted to the vampires for saving Luka must pay these vampire overlords back, which begins his journey in this game as a dawnwalker. This premise gives us the idea that nothing is simple in this world and some hard choices need to be made, be it to support this vampiric order or to topple it. For now, the players are kept in the shadow when it comes to Bloodwalker’s gameplay, with many eagerly waiting to see how the game will turn out.
