The social network Twitter launched a new function on Monday that allows its users to retweet messages by adding GIF, the animated images that cause fury on the internet.
“The wait is over“, retweeted the network to make the announcement, which was accompanied a GIF to illustrate the good news. The message was published in response to a user who asked in January when it would be the “day on which we can retweet with a comment in GIF“.
The “retweet with comment” feature now allows users to add an animated image from a selection of short sequences, from a kiss to approval or surprise, to their shared message. The announcement was followed by a series of retweets from the Twitter account showing the possibilities opened by this new feature.
The novelty is particularly aimed at young people. A recently published Pew Research Center study showed that the average age of a “Twitter” in the United States is 40, compared to 47 in the general population.
On Twitter, there are two different ways to share the content of others. On the one hand, you can make a simple retweet to directly share the publication that someone else has made. And then there is the option of retweet with a comment, in which you create a publication by adding a text or reaction, and the other person’s publication appears attached to that publication of yours.
The process to retweet a comment by adding a GIF, a photo or a video is exactly the same as retweeting with a comment. Therefore, you first have to choose the publication you want to share and click on the retweet button that appears below with the icon of two arrows forming a square.
When you click on that retweet or share button, a small window will open with two different options. In this window, click on the Retweet with comment option to start the process of sharing the publication by adding something from you.
Once the option of Retweet with a comment has been chosen, a screen will open in which you have to create the publication in which the tweet that you are going to share will be attached. In this window, click on the image or GIF button that you will see below the publication you will share.
If for example, you press the GIF option, the add image will explain it to you in the process with your mobile, the typical menu of adding a GIF to a publication will open. In it, you will have to search and click on the GIF that you want to add. The search can be done through the different available categories or with the search engine of GIFs that are at the top.
When you search for a GIF and click on it, you will see a preview of the whole moving image. It will be displayed in a screen Add GIF in which you can give back to keep looking or click on Add to select the GIF and put it in your message, that with which you will perform the result.
Once you have selected the GIF or the image, you can do two things. You can click on Retweet without adding text to share the publication only with a GIF or image without any text on your part. But you can also write a comment and click Retweet to share the post with a comment and the selected image.
Twitter has 330 million users worldwide, as revealed by the US company in the presentation of its results for the first quarter of 2019.
