UC browser is back on the Google Play Store. The Alibaba-owned application was delisted from the Play Store last week. The reason for that incident has been clarified by UC Web as “a certain set of UC Browser that was not in line with Google’s policy”. They have also assured that the latest updated version listings are in accordance with the Play Store’s guidelines.
Young Li, Head of the International Business Department of Alibaba Mobile Business Group, gave a statement to Gadgets 360. He emphasized the passion of the avid admirers and users of UC Browser, who have made a significant contributions to getting the browser to the very top of the Play Store’s free charts.
He said, “During the brief absence of UC Browser on Play Store, we continued to meticulously check our technical settings while also witnessing an uninterrupted passion of our users for the product, who looked upon the alternative version, UC Browser Mini, and made it to the top of [the] Free Apps category on the Play Store.”
There was confusion surrounding the statement made by an alleged employee. He had reportedly said that the company was resorting to “misleading and unhealthy methods of promotion to increase installs” on the Play Store. The ban was an immediate effect of such actions.
UC Web also clarified, “We would like to state that we have no records of anyone named ‘Mike Ross’ claiming to be working for UC Browser, as mentioned in some reports. The person claiming to be working for UC Browser is in no way associated with the firm nor represents the views of the company.The allegations of misleading and malicious promotions by the said person are completely false and baseless.”
Google made it clear that it was nothing personal. They stated that this was the result of the policy of removing apps that violate Play Store guidelines. Google said in the official statement, “Our policies are designed to provide a safe and positive experience for users. That’s why we remove apps from Google Play that violate those policies.”
Though UC Browser is yet to make a huge userbase in Western countries, it still is the most-used mobile browser in India. In India, UC Browser has a market share of 45%.
