The US ATIS formed the “Next G Alliance” to promote US leadership in 6G technology

The United States Telecommunications Industry Solutions Alliance (ATIS) which consists of 150 member companies, announced the establishment of the “Next G Alliance”. The idea behind the Next G Alliance is to put the US as a frontrunner in 6G and future mobile technologies, and as such its focus would be on research and development, manufacturing, standardization, and market preparation.

The founding members of the Next G Alliance include almost all of the tech and communications giants based on the United States: AT&T, Bell Canada, Ciena, Ericsson, Facebook, InterDigital, JMA Wireless, Microsoft, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung, TELUS, Telnyx, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon.

As countries around the world are advancing ambitious 6G R&D plans, it is vital that the entire North American industry must move forward together and work together to develop a roadmap to promote the future of the United States. The work of Next G Alliance focuses on this, involving the entire process from research to commercialization, and the alliance has laid the foundation for North America to present a vibrant and innovative market in the next few generations of mobile technology. “

Under the umbrella goal to promote the US’s forefront position on the 6G development, the initial goal of the alliance would be to formulate a 6G national roadmap, establish a set of core priorities for 6G and future technologies to influence the government policies and acquire funding.

The initial strategic actions will focus mainly on three areas:

• Develop a 6G national roadmap to survive the severe competition in this area, and to establish the US as the global leader in Research and Development, standardization, manufacturing and adoption of Next G technology;

• To pursue the North American technology industry to align on a series of core priorities in order to influence government policies and funding;

• Determine and define the early steps and strategies in the hope of leading the rapid commercialization of the Next G technology in new markets and commercial fields; additionally, to promote the application of the upcoming 6G technology to both domestic and global arena.
