Last year Valve released its Steam Chat for the desktop and now it has a dedicated app for Android and iOS. The app features most of the functionality of the desktop version, including a friends list, game invite links, group chats, and “rich chat” – basically chats riddled with gifs and expanded links.
The new mobile client will let you see who’s online, who’s playing what, add new Steam friends, and, of course, chat. Valve says you can tweak notifications on a friend-by-friend, group-by-group basis.
With Steam Chat moving to its dedicated app, the original Steam Mobile app will see significant upgrades focused on account security. Our plans include better Steam Guard options to help securely log into your Steam accounts, such as QR codes and one-touch login, and improved app navigation – Valve
According to Valve, now that Steam Chat has its own app, and Steam Link is available on both mobile platforms, the main Steam Mobile app will see upgrades that focus on security. Expect to see a better Steam Guard soon, with one-touch login, QR codes and the like.
The app is available for Apple and Android. It follows the release of Steam Link for iOS last week, after a 12-month delay following Apple’s initial rejection of the app.
