I’m currently doing a Master’s Degree in English, and have been writing on and off for years. Part-time gamer and full-time reader of obscure literature. If I’m not at my desk, I’ve probably spotted a cat outside.

Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming immersive open-world action role-playing game that is based on the Harry Potter Universe, is set for a late 2022 release. Set in the 1800s, the game follows a student who is the game protagonist, starting their fifth year at Hogwarts, the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Avalanche Software, the developer for the game that is being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment under its Portkey Games label, is creating the world of Harry Potter to stay as true to the original as possible in order to appeal to the fans, and have finally revealed the look of the new House badges.

There are four houses in Hogwarts, namely Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, which all have an animal as the emblem for their house, which is Lion, Serpent, Eagle, and Badger respectively. They also have distinct house colors—which are Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.

Players React to the New Badge Designs for the Houses in Hogwarts Legacy

As we can see from the badges, they are slightly less detailed than the ones seen in and made popular by the Harry Potter movies. The developer has asked players on Twitter, “which of our new house patches is your favorite?” as the caption, where fans have initially had mixed opinions, but seem to be liking them in general, with some even asking for a collector’s edition version of the badges.

There seems to be a surplus of Ravenclaws on Twitter, with plenty of fans praising the Ravenclaw design in particular for staying true to their colors.

Hogwarts Legacy: Will Houses be Important to the Game?

A 14-minute trailer has already been released earlier this month where players can look through the Common Rooms of the Houses that they will be sorted into once they begin playing the game. Houses seem to be playing a significant role in the game with each room having a unique aesthetic that players can vibe with.

The House Badges will be a vital part of the gameplay once the player is sorted into their house, as they will be looking at their own emblem throughout gameplay. The devs also have a Discord channel where ardent fans of the game can use these badges as emotes and name badges.
