Meta-owned platform Instagram is testing a new feature allowing users to turn off read receipts for DMs, as announced by Mark Zuckerberg and Adam Mosseri.
Adam Mosseri mentioned the feature responds to user feedback, giving control over when messages are marked as "seen."
The testing phase doesn't specify the extent or when the feature will be available to all Instagram users.
Notably, Instagram's introduction of this feature comes considerably later than WhatsApp, another Meta-owned app, which implemented this in 2014.
Meta plans to bring default end-to-end encryption to app DMs after completing its rollout in Messenger, aiming to finish by the end of the year.
