WhatsApp, the instant messaging and voice-over-IP service owned by Meta, recently launched the new Event Creation Feature in WhatsApp groups. Initially, this feature of creating events was only available in WhatsApp Communities. However, in their recent update, users can do the same in WhatsApp groups.
In order to avail this new feature, the users have to have the latest version of the app. For Android phones, users have to tap the paper clip icon available right beside the camera icon. This will open up a pop-up from where they can select the option “Event,” name the event they want to create, and add a description.
The user can set the date, time, and location of the event planned. Moreover, they can create a WhatsApp call link for the event planned. In terms of IOS, the users follow the same process, except they have to click the “+” icon instead of the paperclip one.
Instead of requesting RSVPs in group chats, users can now create an “Event” for occasions like birthday parties, meetings, or any other gathering. With the help of this feature, users can view more details and indicate whether they plan to attend.
The media company The Star reported that WhatsApp made a post about the introduction of this feature and stated, “With Events, people can now more easily plan get-togethers directly in WhatsApp, whether it’s scheduling a virtual meeting or a birthday dinner.” In response, the official said: “Anyone can create an event and others can respond; this way, the entire group will know who will attend the event.” They added that users can also find information about events on the group information page, and participants will automatically receive notifications when the event is approaching.
