WhatsApp, which beliefs in staying on top of things when it comes to its well-loved messenger app, has updated the beta version of WhatsApp for Windows phones with GDPR-related updates. The app has now incorporated the privacy-related rules that have been outlined in Europe. WhatsApp version 2.18.72 has implemented some new rules that, while allowing users to request WhatsApp for information related to their account, have restricted the use of WhatsApp by users below the age of 16 years.

“If you live in a country in the European Region, you must be at least 16 years old to use our Services or such greater age required in your country to register for or use our Services. If you live in any other country except those in the European Region, you must be at least 13 years old to use our Services or such greater age required in your country to register for or use our Services. In addition to being of the minimum required age to use our Services under applicable law, if you are not old enough to have authority to agree to our Terms in your country, your parent or guardian must agree to our Terms on your behalf,” reads WhatsApp’s updated terms of service.

While opening an account on WhatsApp, a new user shall face the following message, “If you live in a country of the European Region, you must be at least 16 years to use our services or the age required in your country to register or use our services. If you live in any other country, except those of the European Region, you must be at least 16 years of age to use our services or the age of majority required in your country to register or use our services.” WhatsApp shall also allow its users to ask for information related to their account, which they can then download and move to other services.

The menu item “Blocked Contacts” has been changed to “Manage Blocked Contacts”, in addition to minor fixes and improvements.
