The WhatsApp new update for Android users aims at ensuring that they can enjoy the same controls as their iOS counterparts do. At the same time, this upgrade is for the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.
Via this upgrade, WhatsApp lets users have more control over how they want to see the notifications in the app. Firstly, you can turn on notifications for particular messages in a chat. You can as well turn off group chats.
Secondly, benefitted by the ‘notification channels’ feature of 8.0 Oreo, the users can set preferences for failure notifications and messages. This also lets you set preferences for media playback, chat history backup, and critical app alerts.
Now, it has been only a few months since Oreo 8.0 is released. Therefore, not many devices will get to have the benefits. The likes of Samsung and LG haven’t yet moved their phones to the latest Android OS.
On the other hand, Sony, HTC, and Nokia did release the version, but the users having it installed are collectively a very small group. As a round-up, representatives of Google provided observation results which say only 1% of Android users have 8.0 Oreo installed on their phones.
Well, the new Whatsapp Android update also lets you delete messages from a group chat, with the option to delete them for all participating members. This requires the concerned recipients to have Android 8.0 Oreo installed, aside from you alone.
While this all looks pretty cool, it must act as an encouragement for Android users to get updated as soon as possible. What are you waiting for?
