WhatsApp, the widely popular instant messaging app, had wanted to develop a new feature that would let its users use a single account across a number of devices. However, the concept is more complicated to develop since WhatsApp had always focused on a single device. But the requests that they have been getting from its users to develop such a feature has been monumental.

WhatsApp too, decided not to disappoint anyone, so the team at WhatsApp is developing the feature in parts. The promised feature is still under development and has a long way to go. Again, it is not possible at the moment to use one WhatsApp account across several devices.

WhatsApp’s development is honed in on making it work on 4 devices at the same time. The new feature lets the user use the same WhatsApp account on a second device when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

If the user wants to use WhatsApp on a second device, they do not need to copy the chat history at all. The test was run on WhatsApp Desktop, and it should work on a second mobile device also. Furthermore, now there is no need to have an active internet connection on the main device to use the WhatsApp Desktop.

When WhatsApp has successfully copied the chat history to the second device, the possibility of using a second device will finally materialize.

In this sense, the chat history will always be synced across platforms, and if the user adds or removes a device from the list, the encryption key too would change accordingly, and the changes will be notified to all active chats. It should be noted that WhatsApp has developed an iPad app that will be released after this activation feature is made live so that the users could use the instant message app on an iPhone and iPad simultaneously.
