Just last month, WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is working on a video message feature for iPhone users. The feature, according to the outlet, will let iPhone users record short video messages and send them of up to 60 seconds.
The information comes after the Meta-owned platform released a new Windows app that lets users host group video calls with up to 8 people and audio calls with up to 32 participants.
However, the biggest news of the day from WABetaInfo is that the social media platform is working on the ability to record short video messages and send them, available in a future update of the app. This is disclosed in a new update submitted through the TestFlight beta Program, bringing the version up to 23.7.0.77.
WhatsApp Record Short Video Messages
As confirmed by WABetaInfo the feature is still under development but will be rolled out in future updates of the app. When this feature is finally released, users can easily record short video messages and send them to their contacts by pressing the camera button.
From the screenshot shared by the outlet, the preview “Video Message” will show up within the chat list in case you receive a video message. The same feature is also available for images, videos, GIFs, and stickers, and it was made compatible with Reactions last year.
A video message is captured and sent in real time, whereas a video can be pre-recorded and saved to be sent at a later time. This is the fundamental distinction between the two. A video message feels more timely and intimate because the recipient can sense that it was just recorded. Making a video message undoubtedly contributes to its genuineness.
It’s important to note that video messages will be encrypted from beginning to end. This indicates that no one else, not even WhatsApp, can view it. Additionally, up to 60 seconds of video messages can be recorded. Additionally, since the video is not sent when utilizing the view once mode, users cannot store or forward video messages, but they can still record them using screen recording.
As it stands now, the ability to send video messages is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. Thus, stay connected with TechGenyz as will give you further information about the upcoming features.
