The Wild Rift Icons Global Championship is one of the most important esports events for Wild Rift, with the top teams from across the world competing for the title of Champion. Riot Games has already set up a dedicated website for this competition, which will take place between June 14 and July 9. The website also includes the entire format for Icons 2022.

The Wild Rift Global Championship Icons 2022 will be held in Singapore. However, it was originally scheduled to take place in Madrid, but the location was moved because to travel issues created by the COVID-19 epidemic.

Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 schedule

This competition will include 24 teams from the eight locations where Wild Rift is available. Regional tournaments were initially held in each area, and the top teams qualifying would play in this worldwide event. The following are the top 24 teams from their respective regional tournaments:

  • Wild Rift League (WRL)
  • FunPlus Phoenix (Group Stage)
  • Wild Rift Champions SEA (WCS)
  • Wild Tour Brazil (WBR)
  • Wild Rift Open Latin America (WOL)
  • Wild Rift EMEA Championship (WEC)
  • Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK)
  • Wild Rift North America Series (WNS)
  • Wild Rift Japan Cup (WJC)

To qualify for the finals, the 24 teams will participate in three stages: the Play-ins, the Group stage, and the Knockout stage.

Play-ins

The Play-ins stage will include 16 teams from each of the eight zones. The sixteen teams will be divided into four groups of four, with each group playing a best-of-three elimination phase (first two match winners will qualify). The top two teams from each group will go to the following level, the Group stage.

Group stage

The top teams from the play-in stage will participate in the group stage against eight regional champion teams from their respective areas. At this point, the teams will be sorted into four groups, each with four teams. The grouped teams will compete in best-of-three elimination games, comparable to the play-ins, with the top two teams qualifying for the next round.

Knockout stage

Each team will play teams from the opposite group in a best-of-five match in the knockout stage. The losers will be disqualified from the event, while the victors will compete in best-of-five and best-of-seven matches in the semi-finals and finals, respectively.

Icons 2022 date and prize pool

The play-ins stage will begin on June 14th, as planned, towards the middle of next month. The preliminary rounds will take place during June, with the finals taking place on July 9. A hefty prize pool of $2 million will be divided among the top contending teams in the competition. Fans may watch the live action on Wild Rift’s official Twitch channel.
