Microsoft is always looking for ways in which it can make people personalize their computers better. Personalizing may mean a lot of different things for a lot of different users; it may mean changing their wallpapers to re-arranging icons.
Now on Windows 10 users can customize their PC wallpapers using Bing images. Microsoft’s new app will play a major role in this area. Zac Bowden tweeted that Windows 10X comes with the built-in ability to set Bing images as their desktop wallpaper without having to download any third-party app.
This feature of setting Bing images as wallpaper is certainly not new, but previously, the users needed to download an app for that. But now that Microsoft has brought out a built-in version of this feature, the app does not seem like a requirement.
As for the previous version of this feature, Microsoft claims that its new Win32 app ‘Bing Wallpaper’ would allow its users to change the desktop background in accordance with the latest image featured on Bing’s homepage as ‘image of the day.
Bing Wallpaper is a desktop app, and once the app is downloaded it will stay in the system tray. Every time the image of the day on the search engine Bing changes, the desktop wallpaper will follow suit.
As for the images or wallpapers featured on the search engine itself, usually independent photographers from around the world, shoot those images. Bing hosts a number of subjects for its ‘image of the day’ category ranging from landscapes, portrait to animals and plants.
Downloading the app is hassle-free; however, it is riddled with the installer which offers the option of setting Bing as the homepage in the browser and the default search engine in Chrome, Firefox, or even Microsoft Edge. So far, this option does not appear to be a mandatory requirement as the users can uncheck the box that proceeds the app to make the above-mentioned changes.
The app is not available on the Microsoft Store per se, but it can be downloaded just like any other Win32 apps. Moreover, for users looking for something extra, there is an alternative available called the Dynamic Theme which can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. The Dynamic Theme too sets the Bing ‘image of the day’ as the desktop wallpaper, and the app lets the users save the images of their choice for later use.
