Microsoft Re-introduces Windows Core Operating System for New Devices

There was a rumor in the air that Microsoft was working on its Windows Core Operating system and was soon going to introduce it to the world again. This new OS from Microsoft is said to be compatible with other devices like a new class of devices, collapsible PCs and will also support Android devices.

Relaunch of WCOS

Microsoft will launch an OS that will be completely different from the previously launched ones. According to a recent Forbes report, Microsoft is all set to release a collapsible Surface PC under the code-name Centaurus’. This new PC will have the new Windows Core Operating System (WCOS) and also support Android applications on the device.

A Microsoft Engineer confirmed via LinkedIn that the Microsoft operating system department is to developing a UWP application for Windows along with the Windows Core operating system. The person also indicated that Windows will bring File Picker and File Explorer experiences for Windows Core OS (WCOS) for users. Rumors have it that Windows Core operating system has a deep connection with UWP applications and web experiences.

What is WCOS?

Windows has taken a kind of a modular approach in terms of the new WCOS. Windows COS is based on coding to meet each device’s specifications and will ensure compatibility with other devices that use the core OS framework. As it has open-source instead of binary blocks or software, it will be much helpful to the device manufacturers or developers.

Users can easily custom their Core OS as much they want as it is closely related to the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), allowing developers to build applications for different platforms e.g. mobile, desktop, Xbox and more. There is no need to customize or rewrite separately for each device. Furthermore, it saves tons of time and effort for developers.

According to a recent source, Microsoft is developing a Windows Core version of the Action Center to maintain the notification pipeline on the new OS platform. The tech giant will also introduce a new PC, including Microsoft dual-screen devices, by the first half of next year.
