As the mobile industry is anticipating the official launch of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra come April 18 in the home country – China. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has officially confirmed the camera sensors of the device via a post on Weibo.

Lei Jun disclosed this while describing the device ahead of its official launch. According to him, the Mi 13 Ultra has four cameras and six focal lengths, all of which are very powerful. This allows users to take pictures, and release their creative freedom.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Camera Sensors

Announcing the Xiaomi 13 Ultra camera sensors, Lei Jun said when selecting the Mi 13 Ultra hardware, the company focuses on better and very strong sensors with focal lengths as they are very important. In his words:

“As the main camera, we chose the IMX989, which is currently the strongest mobile camera, jointly developed by Sony and Xiaomi.

After confirming the IMX989, the sub-camera is confirmed: IMX858, currently the most technologically advanced Sony mobile sensor, is also the only one that is on par with the IMX989 in terms of features.

Features of IMX858 Sony Sensor

1. IMX858 is the only Sony sensor that supports MCSS (Multi-Camera Synchronization System), which can achieve better multi-camera consistency;

2.IMX858 is the only Sony sensor that supports LN2 low noise mode except IMX989;

3. IMX858 supports 100% PDAF full Pixel focusing;

4. IMX858 supports the same DOL-HDR technology as IMX989, and with 12-bit ADC, it can achieve an ultra-high dynamic range close to the naked eye.

IMX858 is known as the golden partner of IMX989. Inside Sony, it even has a kind name called “Little Giant.”

However, Lie Jun further stated that to ensure the consistency of the entire system, the company used three IMX858 sensors so that all sub-cameras have the same imaging capabilities and are strictly aligned with the main camera.

“Coupled with the ISZ extended focal length function, the four cameras can achieve a total of six focal lengths, covering a zoom range from 12mm to 240mm. Calculating the comprehensive photosensitivity, the apertures of the three sub-cameras are all enlarged, and the amount of light entering is 14-43% higher than that of the previous generation,” he added.
