Xiaomi is stepping into the next generation of its custom operating system with the development of HyperOS 2, based on Android 16. As revealed by the newly discovered early beta build, multiple upcoming Xiaomi and Redmi devices will receive the update. With this information, we can assume that the company is in the final testing phase of its latest software innovation. This is a significant milestone for the Chinese tech giant as it continues to refine its ecosystem with tighter integration, better performance, and smarter AI features.

HyperOS 2: What We Know So Far

HyperOS was introduced as a unified platform to power Xiaomi’s vast array of devices, from smartphones and tablets to IoT gadgets and smart home appliances. The goal was to provide a consistent and seamless user experience across all Xiaomi products while reducing software fragmentation and improving device interoperability. HyperOS 1 brought a foundational shift by merging elements of MIUI and Vela, Xiaomi’s IoT operating system, to form a new generation interface with cross-device synchronisation.

The naming format suggests these builds are in the Developer Preview Phase (DPP), dated 21st of April, 2025. Notably, the inclusion of global build indicates Xiaomi’s international teams are also actively preparing for release, not just the Chinese division. 

Key Features Expected in HyperOS 2

HyperOS 2 will be Xiaomi’s first operating system built atop Android 16, which itself is expected to introduce features like satellite connectivity support, improved battery stats, new privacy settings, and better foldable device optimisations. By syncing HyperOS development closely with Android 16, Xiaomi ensures users get the latest features from Google’s mobile platform while maintaining its custom experience.

Although Xiaomi has not officially unveiled the feature set of HyperOS 2, leaks and past trends suggest several exciting updates are on the horizon. Here is what users can potentially look forward to:

Performance Enhancements

HyperOS 2 is expected to bring system-wide optimizations for better multitasking, reduced power consumption, and more efficient memory management. HyperOS 2 might also include better and in-depth location permission and improved notifications around app tracking behaviour.

While Xiaomi has not officially confirmed a release date, the discovery of these early beta builds suggests that a public beta, or even a stable release, may be around the corner.
