Finally, the curtain has been unveiled. After a lot of speculation, rumors, and writings, Xiaomi finally introduced the Mi Drone –their new area of business. As we reported earlier, the Drone has an all-white body 4-propeller system with detachable shields and comes with a high-resolution 4K UHD camera capable of recording 4K video at 3840 x 2160 pixels.
The Chinese tech major gave a twist while launching a new product – Mi Drone was no exception. The company took live video broadcasting to launch the product. The 1080p camera can record video with a 104° wide-angle lens from up to 2km distance giving a clear aerial view of the objects.
The camera used in the drone is the Sony 12.4-megapixel sensor that can capture video at 30 fps which corrects itself 2,000 times per second, and this is assisted by an optical flow sensor positioned between the camera and the battery bay on the back.
Hugo Barra, the company’s Global Vice President in his Facebook profile, has detailed the device specifications.
The drone is designed in a way that you can carry it in a backpack to your favorite destinations. The built-in autopilot technology also lets the drone to automatically takes-off and comes down on land and has the ability to plan a flight path planning – you can control the drone’s flying zone through remote control. Some other features include in the drone – GPS + GLONASS + vision-based positioning for maximum precision. The drone is powered by a 5100mAh 17.4V battery that lets you fly non-stop for 27 minutes, and its built-in technology intelligently detects a low battery and returns home automatically.
Pricing of the Mi Drone is now official, with two variants available. The 4K version retails at 2,999 yuan (just under $460), while the 1080P model is priced at 2,499 yuan ($380).
