Xiaomi launched its Go Android-affiliated smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Go in India at noon today. The event has been live streamed on the Xiaomi India YouTube channel and a dedicated microsite on Mi.com. The invitation had been sent out last week by the company where the word ‘GO’ was highlighted in the invite, followed by the hashtag #MiForYou, confirming the launch of Redmi Go in India.
After a lot of rumors, the phone has lastly come with a lot of India-focused features. The phone supports up to 20 Indian languages. It also has a Google Assistant that brings additional support for the Hindi language. It features a 5-inches HD screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Xiaomi Redmi Go is powered by the Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor with a 16:9 aspect ratio which is backed by Adreno 308 GPU. There is 8GB of internal storage and 1 GB of RAM, which can further be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card slot.
While Xiaomi’s Redmi line of phones is known for bringing affordable offerings in the mid-range segment, this is the first try ever by the Chinese tech giant to steer its sub-brand into the Android Go territory which promises affordable entry-level smartphones. Android Go comes with its suite of streamlined Google applications like YouTube Go; Maps Go, Files Go and more, for delivering the complete experience despite not-so-powerful hardware.
On the optics front, the Redmi Go comes with an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The battery on the Android Go smartphone is a 3,000mAh unit, which should be enough, given the less-demanding hardware.
The novelty will be available at Rs. 4,499 for the 1GB+ 8GB variant. The sales start on 22nd March at noon on Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home. There are also added offers from Reliance Jio, where users will get Rs. 2,200 cash back with 100 GB of data free.
