2017 has been the year of bezel-less full-screen smartphones. Though it started with the high-end flagship devices, it didn’t take much time for the low-end devices to sport them. It naturally sent the fingerprint identification part to the rear end of the phone. The rear fingerprint scanner doesn’t really have any drawbacks. But, it has certain disadvantages compared to the front fingerprint scanner, like, the smartphones can’t be unlocked while being on a table.
Synaptics has recently come up with the concept of the front under-screen fingerprint sensors that can solve the problem. They have also made it official that the mass production of the under-screen fingerprint sensor has already started. Vivo Xplay7 is going to be the first device to come with this feature. It’s been confirmed by @Mocha RQ that apart from Vivo, Huawei is also planning to implement this technology in their devices.
It’s also been suspected that the Xiaomi Mi 7, that’s expected to come next year will not use this technology. Instead, they will probably be using 3D facial recognition.
Just the Snapdragon 845 chipset alone may not be enough to upgrade Mi 6. Xiaomi Mi 6 has been massively criticized for its small screen of 5.15″. The Mi 7 is expected to have a larger screen, reported to be 5.65″. The critics believe that adding the under-screen fingerprint sensor or 3D facial recognition can satisfy the customers. So, what’s to be seen is which one of the Xiaomi Mi 7 finally comes out with.
