The China-based smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi, which is currently dominating the Indian smartphone market, has launched its mobile payment solution in the country Mi Pay. With this debut, India becomes the first country outside the company’s home market to get the Mi Pay service.
Xiaomi India announced their plans to enter into payment services in collaboration with ICICI Bank and PayU back in December. Now, with the recent MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM, the company has introduced Mi Pay 2.0 in a dark mode custom app.
Back in December, the Chinese smartphone maker made its first announcement to enter into payment services collaboration with ICICI Bank and PayU bank to enable a UPI-based payment system. Soon after the report, the company started with registrations for beta testing after receiving formal approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Xiaomi’s mobile payment service enables customers to pay, including phone, electricity, and water bills, and do mobile and DTH recharge. In India, it has been cleared by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for large group usage.
The feature also got fused into the settings interface of the MIUI Global Beta ROM; the app never misses out on varied payment options despite a basic UI released in January. It will be much easier for already Xiaomi users.
To use the app, users need to sign into the Mi account and provide permission, it requires Phone, Contacts, and SMS access. The transaction will be done directly with the user’s bank account just after it has been verified with the Mi Pay app. Xiaomi claimed that the service would be available to all MIUI 10 users shortly.
