Chinese tech giant Xiaomi recently launched its first-ever foldable smartphone. Recently, foldable smartphones have been in vogue, and Xiaomi too jumped the bandwagon. On April 9th the company officially announced that the foldable smartphone is ‘widely’ available for pre-sale; however, the ‘widely’ is limited only to China. But the officials at Xiaomi have confirmed that the smartphone will soon be launched and be made available in other markets as well, although the date or the timeframe has not been specified.
The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun on his official Weibo page confirmed the launch of the foldable Xiaomi Mix Fold Smartphone. However, he did something that is unlike most introductory news, that is, he also published an image that compares the new offering from the Chinese manufacturer to Apple’s iPad mini Tablet.
Although the idea behind the comparison is not clear yet, it has been made clear, mostly to the users and the prospective buyers, that when compared to Xiaomi, the iPad mini loses in every aspect, if one could excuse the pricing difference.
The dimensions of the Xiaomi Mix Fold are 173 x 133 mm whereas the iPad mini has dimensions of 203 x 134 mm. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mix Fold comes with a screen of 8.01-inches, and the iPad mini features a display screen of 7.9-inches. A few users were also quick to point out that the Apple device features thick bezels especially in regards to modern contemporary devices. Moreover, one point of contestation has been the fact that the Xiaomi Mix Fold comes with an AMOLED panel that employs an increased pixel density, better brightness and significantly higher contrast than that of the Apple device.
The Xiaomi Mix Fold should go on sale on April 16th in China. The date for its global launch is yet to be announced.
