Smartphones are being made with various moderation; some come with attached headphones, whereas some have inbuilt vaporizer within it. Nowadays, smartphones are not bound within the usual models, they are beyond that.
The companies are also thinking out of the box to come up with different ideas for their new cellphone models. The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi is also planning to launch something new as it has patented a new cellular model with a removable OLED screen.
CNIPA mentioned the patented model as “two-component phone” in one of its published articles. This smartphone will give the users the freedom to remove its OLED screen and may also have wireless feature along with it. Xiaomi applied for the patent on March 31st, 2020 and it was published in China’s Intellectual Property Administration(CNIPA) on August 2, 2020.
About the patented smartphone
As mentioned before, the patented model from Xiaomi has two parts: the body and the detachable screen. The body of the phone will be thicker than the display and the display will be attached to the body only with a few magnetic connectors.
Interestingly, The full-screen display has no punch-hole or pop-up cutout for the cameras. It could also have its own battery but it is not clearly specified.
The smartphone will have an under-screen camera solution. As per the patent, there are two selfie cameras and an LED flash on the body. There are no sensors on the removable display. This concludes that Xiaomi could build up the sensors on the body, under the OLED display.
Besides these, the smartphone has a USB-C port, Speaker and Microphone grills at the bottom. The device will also sport volume buttons and a power button to the right along with a SIM card tray to the left.
How would the detachable screen work?
Though the smartphone looks like any other model available in the market, it becomes a completely different cellular model once detached. There are many speculations about Xiaomi’s patented smartphone with a detachable screen. According to a LetsGoDigital report, the display could be wirelessly charged via a wireless connection to the housing. However, there is no confirmation from Xiaomi’s end.
The detachable screen also looks promising. It could be used as a simple phone during video chats while the body could act like the cameras. Or even when taking selfies or pictures, the display could act as remote as that of the S-pens in some of the Samsung devices.
Several question also remains regarding the patented device. How will the LED flash work through the screen? How will the sensors of the phone work? What new features will be included along with the detachable screen? Despite of having so many speculations, it will be interesting to see how Xiaomi manages to pull this through.
As the device is still in patents, we are not sure if it will manage to come out in the market or not. Like other companies, Xiaomi may or may not decide to work on the patented cellular model later. The company still hasn’t released any official statement regarding this. We will let you know once we get any kind of information.
