Smartphone makers are racing to become the first to launch a smartphone with in-display camera solution. After experimenting with notches, pop-up selfie cameras, and hole punch display design, smartphone makers have identified putting the camera under the display as the ideal solution for creating a full-screen smartphone. Huawei, Samsung is already working on such a solution while Xiaomi has received a patent for enabling camera under the display.
Recently, Oppo shared a teaser showing its in-display camera technology. It is speculated that the company will launch its first smartphone with this design element later this year. Following Oppo, Xiaomi’s patent shows that the company is working on the in-display selfie camera technology.
The patent filed by Xiaomi has surfaced on the internet, which shows what the Chinese smartphone maker ambitions to introduce – an Invisible Screen Technology. The patent states that Xiaomi plans to include a secondary display under the main display that will be in front of the selfie camera and light sensor.
It will reportedly work in such a way that the camera will become visible whenever required and invisible when not in use. How Xiaomi will make the camera visible or invisible depending on need remains unknown, but the company seems to have at least devised a plan to make it possible.
However, there is no clarity regarding when these smartphones will see the light of the day. The latest patent from Xiaomi shows that it will join the list of smartphone makers working on bringing such technology to reality. It shows that the company is in plans to launch smartphones with such a design in the future.
