Xiaomi launched its latest budget android phone, Mi A1, in September 2017, with the 7.1.2 Android Nougat. Since the launch was just a little ahead of the official inauguration of the next Android version, Oreo, Xiaomi promised to roll out the latest Android version to its users as soon as it was made available. As promised, Mi A1 users started receiving Oreo updates from December 31 onwards, and although the users were receiving the update in batches, the company assured that all its users would receive them in due time. But, in the latest development, Xiaomi has reportedly started retracting the update from the devices due to bug reports.
Users started facing issues like the battery drained by Bluetooth, broken user interaction via display notifications, and the impossibility of answering an incoming call on a phone whose screen has been off since they updated their devices. Although no official statement has yet been made by the company, a number of users have noticed the latest development, and a screenshot of a message sent by the company confirms the retraction.
Mi A1 is Xiaomi’s first Android One device, running stock Android sans modifications, and has been launched mostly in developing countries. The new features that were supposed to be rolled in along with the update to Oreo included a redesigned and de-clustered Settings menu, Picture-in-Picture video, auto-fill app support, adaptive icons, and Night Light feature, and notification dots.
The update was also supposed to speed up the phone’s hitherto total charging time of two hours to an estimated 92 minutes. Understandably, the pulling out of the update has left a number of users crestfallen. The company has not yet issued any information regarding the resumption of the update.
