The tech world was divided when it came to smart glasses: on the one hand, people were excited about what the invention of smart glasses might entail, on the other people were concerned with the blatant invasion of privacy, and quite rightly so. Google failed on this front; Apple or even Facebook’s collaboration with Ray-ban was not a great success. Now, another tech giant, Xiaomi has entered the playing field. Xiaomi’s venture into smart glass is ambitious, in that the company is aiming for something practical that could be used every day.
Xiaomi has launched the exploration version of the Xiaomi Smart Glasses. The smart glasses come with an advanced MicroLED optical waveguide technology, and the display offers 2 million nits of brightness. Xiaomi has also claimed that the optical wavelength technology will carry the image from the said MicroLED to the eye. Moreover, the smart glasses run on a quad-core ARM processer and feature Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module, camera, and more.
Smart glasses can not only act as a second screen for smartphones, but they can also deliver important messages to their wearer thanks to its XiaoAI assistant. The glasses will display the number, and the user can convey the message through the built-in microphone and speaker of the glasses whether they want to see or receive the message. But the smart glasses can also function independently on their own without a smartphone. It comes with the ability to let the users access things like navigation, translation, and communication.
Xiaomi smart glasses can also take photos. This feature has ignited the conversation around the breach of privacy, but Xiaomi has clarified that when the 5MP camera of the smart glass is in use, the indicator light beside it gets turned on. The company has not revealed if it has any plans of commercializing the smart glasses in the near future.
