Xiaomi is again in the market with two news smartphones, Mi 5s, and Mi 5s Plus. Both Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus will come with two RAM variants.
Starting with the Xiaomi Mi 5s, the new device has an aluminum design, unlike its predecessor Mi 5, which had a glass and metal body with a brushed metal finish, curved edges, and antenna lines at the top and bottom.
At the back is the device has a new large 1/2.3 CMOS sensor powering the 12-megapixel rear camera with F/2.0 aperture and PDAF that bests even the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 edge. You will also get a 4-megapixel camera on the front with a 2μm large pixel and F/2.0 aperture.
These two handsets don’t have many similarities when it comes to features and specifications. The smaller phone, Mi 5s, has a 5.15-inch Full HD display with 1920 X 1080-pixel resolution. The Mi 5s comes in two memory variants: 3GB RAM with 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 128GB internal storage.
As per the details provided by the company itself, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 64-bit octa-core processor. The Mi 5s has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is based on Qualcomm’s Sense ID technology, in place of the Home button in Mi 5 smartphone. While Mi 5s Plus has a bigger 5.7-inch QHD display it also packs in the same processor coupled with Adreno 530 GPU for graphics.
Comparing these handsets of Xiaomi with Apple’s book, it looks like Xiaomi has taken few pages from iPhone 7 as the Mi 5s Plus carries a dual-camera setup on the back, which we saw in iPhone 7 Plus this year. Mi 5s Plus has dual rear camera setup with 13-megapixel snappers on the back – one is color and other is black and white.
Mi 5s will be available in dark gray, silver, gold and pink gold color variations. The 3GB RAM variant will be sold at 1,999 Yuan (approx. Rs. 20,000) and the 4GB RAM variant will sell for 2,299 Yuan (approx. Rs 23,000).
On the other hand, the Mi 5s Plus will be available in pink, gold and silver colors. The base model with 4GB RAM will be available for 2,299 Yuan (approx. Rs 23,000) and the 6GB RAM variant will be sold at 2,599 Yuan (approx. Rs 26,000). The phone will be sold through a flash sale in China on Sept 29; there is no official word about the phone’s launch in India to date.
