With a few days left for the CES 2020, Yandex has already sketched out its plan for the event. The tech company has disclosed its plan to demonstrate its self-driving autonomous cars at the CES. At the event, Yandex will be providing demonstration rides in its self-driving cars with no one behind the steering wheel on the public streets of Las Vegas.
The tech giant published the news on its official website on January 5th mentioning its future plans around the year. Yandex will be appearing at the CES for the second time and hopefully will give a bang on to this year.
According to a BBC report, a reworked Toyota Prius is chosen as the demonstrative for self-driving autonomous car demonstration. Yandex engineers modified the car and infused some sensors and a big computer in the boot reportedly. It may not seem overwhelming. However, it surely lives up to its purpose which is to deliver good results in self-driving.
Getting ready
As the company claims, it has been working on its self-driving vehicles in driverless mode around the neighborhoods of the Hard Rock Hotel. An official Yandex report states that the cars will autonomously perform unprotected left turns, navigate around multilane streets and crosswalks in heavy traffic at speeds up to 45 mph.
Therefore, to deliver such a result, they have chosen the retrofitted Toyota Prius cars which operate with the latest generation of Yandex’s autonomous hardware and software. The cars also include a new sensor array, which enables the vehicle to more accurately understand the world around it.
Dmitry Polishchuk, the head of Yandex Self-Driving is excited to deliver the amazing news to the world. He said:
We’re excited to be back in the US at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas for the second year in a row. The technology in our autonomous cars has improved tremendously as we accumulated over 1.5 million autonomous miles in diverse conditions. Constantly driving our cars in challenging environments in Russia, Israel, and the US improves their safety, navigation capabilities, and adaptability to diverse driving conditions. We look forward to providing an advanced autonomous riding experience in Las Vegas this week. Looking ahead, we will be bringing our public robo-taxi service to the June 2020 North American International Auto Show.
Other plans
Yandex was also present at the CES 2019 with its other self-driving technologies and cars. This year will also be not an exception. Hence its last appearance, the Yandex Self-Driving fleet has reportedly grown from 10 vehicles to more than 100 today. Recently, the company introduced its autonomous delivery robot, Yandex Rover. As per claims, it will ultimately help automate last-mile deliveries and warehouse logistics.
Following the CES 2020, Yandex will head to Detroit where it will provide autonomous taxi service with an expanded fleet of self-driving vehicles for the visitors of the June 2020 North American International Auto Show.
