“Spends too much time on the phone” is a universal concern of every parent out
there. Children, these days, are a bit too involved in the digital world, be it through a cell
phone, a tablet, or a PC. The younger generation is all about gadgets and technology which
to a certain extent also contributes to boosting their skills and knowledge but once the
bars are raised and the lines are crossed, it becomes more bane than boon.

YouTube, as a platform, has come forth to reduce the screen time of juveniles and help them to put the phone down after a certain time by expanding their ‘take a break’ feature which would only serve the best, not just the children but also to the parents out there.

“It’s healthy for teens to choose what they watch because they are exploring their interests, and seeing the world from different perspectives,” says YouTube’s Yalda T. Uhls in the official announcement.

The expansion in the ‘take a break’ feature would rather work as a time limit feature in
iPhone. The reminders for the break would now appear every 60 minutes over both
short and long-form videos on the platform. Since the feature has been designed and
developed keeping the juveniles in mind, the reminders would show up on their screens by
default, though, the parents and guardians would be permitted to tailor the settings anyway.

Conclusion:

The latest update in YouTube’s ‘take a break’ feature seems like a med to all the parents
worried about the screen time of their young children. Hopefully, this will contribute to
reducing the screen time and watch time of the younger ones. Tell us what your thoughts are on this by writing feedback.
