YouTube is reportedly exploring the introduction of a much-anticipated feature: the sleep timer. This feature could be a total game-changer for the millions of people who incorporate their service into their evening routine. A large part of the audience has a developed behavior pattern to listen to a podcast, ASMR content, or whatever it is that came into their mind, basically, just before going to sleep.
Even though it’s a really elaborate feature, it is extremely useful for a number of people. This also helps save the data and the battery of the device they’re using minimizing wastage. This feature, is available for only Youtube premium users. They can avail this via the settings of the respective app. It is under the subheading, “Try experimental New Features”.
The Sleep Timer option will be thereby visible on the video player. A timer can be set for 10,20,30,45, and 60 minutes respectively. Another way the timer can be set is, by choosing the option of setting a timer till the respective video end. In case anyone wants to extend their timer, there will be a pop up option once the chosen timer ends. This experimental feature will be officially available to the consumers till September 2, 2024.
However one can hope that Youtube will extend this feature not only for the Premium users but also for the free users . Youtube has previously added new features in its Premium version as well. These includes a lock screen feature to avoid unnecessary taps ensuring an interruption free experience. It also has an AI assistant that answers questions related to the videos displayed on Youtube. But it is needless to say that Youtube is a bit late to introduce this new feature.
The sleep timer feature is already available for Spotify as well as Tiktok users. Therefore bringing this feature for a limited period does raise a question of why Youtube is lagging behind in comparison to its respective competitors. There has been a new expectation set by Youtube. We definitely hope that Youtube decides to commit to this new decision for the exclusive benefits of its consumers.
