YouTube renewed its own production series, Cobra Kai, for the third season. The first two, already available in its payment service, YouTube Premium, will be free this fall.
The digital platform owned by Google unveiled during an event aimed at advertisers and later in a statement sent to the press by mail, that the series and content that are part of YouTube Originals, a platform of original content created by themselves (Netflix style), will be available for free users but with ads.
While the rest of the media companies build payment walls, we are heading in the opposite direction and now we have more opportunities than ever to partner with advertisers and share our critically acclaimed originals with our global audience. – Robert Kyncl, YouTube’s business director
YouTube will also bet on music in its new strategy to attract advertisers and users since it also revealed that next year it will have a project with Justin Bieber, which for now, have not given details.
This change means that you will no longer need a subscription to YouTube Premium to see the original programs and movies, but you will be able to see them as if it were not original content, though, assuming the ads.
The news of the YouTube strategy change also comes along with other good news for the company itself. And that according to the company revealed in its statement, has passed the barrier of 2 billion monthly viewers and its viewers have spent 250 million hours watching its content since it began in 2019, many more compared to the 180 million hours recorded in mid-2018. It is possible that these figures will increase even more at the time when the original content of the paid subscription is released.
