YouTube finally came to a decision of terminating six popular YouTubers’ channels on the ground of promoting white supremacy which includes popular faces such as Molyneux, Spencer, American Renaissance as well.
Molyneux, who has constantly fallen under critics’ eyes for coming up with eugenics (a set of beliefs that tend to achieve a genetic quality of the human race by disqualifying the ones belonging to the peripheries of the world) came up with a video response to the banning of his channel claiming it to be a false accusation centralizing around supremacism.
According to the earlier records, this is not the first time that a specific social media has unplugged channels and users from its forum. Based on such records, Reddit too had raised objections against a pro-Trump subreddit forum that attempted to disobey the general rules and regulations prompted by the Reddit company.
Experts say that with the popularisation of social media as a tool to raise awareness, unfortunately, various individual perception is now being imposed as a mandatory outlook.
This is furthermore glorifying the notion of racism, misogyny or homophobia, so on and so forth. Spencer too had been promoting several white nationalist movements, separatism, and immigration restriction under the roof of his popular ‘Alt-Right’ movement, also known as the alternative right.
Surveys have shown such views tend to manipulate and misguide many people around the world and have posited danger to our society. The infamous Charleston Church shooter accused of killing nine black clergymen in June 2016 seemed to be taking the ‘self -learning process’ online, where his idea of white supremacy was associated with the act of violence as well.
India too has witnessed spewing of hate speeches imparting Hindutva ideology, circulating over WhatsApp groups that later caused mob lynching in 2014. Various other circumstances resurfaced at an exceeding rate in U.S.A., Myanmar, and SriLanka.
The social media policies now tend to abolish such ‘borderline contents’ such as verbal attacks on immigrants or derogatory speeches that promote racist dialogues amongst people.
According to the UN Fact-finding mission, such hate speeches brew unimaginable consequences for the public.
Many people like Spencer, Duke, and Molyneux use them as a forum to uphold such restraining ideology which is non-profitable for world-wide public forums such as Facebook, WhatsApp, or YouTube. YouTube, which has been recognized as the most radicalizing instrument by sociologist Tufekci, announced to erase all such discriminatory videos this June 2020.
