The leaders of a key US government House committee summoned Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to testify about a privacy scandal involving a data-mining company connected with US President Donald Trump.

Latest revelations regarding Facebook’s use and security of user data raises many serious consumer protection concerns – Greg Walden of Oregon and Frank Pallone of New Jersey

They said their staff received a briefing on Wednesday from Facebook officials that left many questions unanswered.

On Friday, the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee wrote Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg specifying new concerns about the social media company’s use of data and formally requesting that he testify at a future hearing.

“The hearing will examine the harvesting and sale of personal information from more than 50 million Facebook users, potentially without their notice or consent and in violation of Facebook policy,” wrote Walden, Pallone, and other committee leaders.

Walden is a chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and Pallone is the panel’s top senior Democrat.
