Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun talked about the company’s 5G plans for 2020 and announced the launch timeline of the Redmi K30 at the Xiaomi Developers Conference in Beijing, China today. Jun revealed that Redmi K30 5G will launch next month.
Interestingly, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing earlier indicated that the Redmi K30 would be announced in 2020, but it seems like that’s not going to be the case. However, it could be possible that the company announces the Redmi K30 in December while it’s Pro variant might break cover in early-2020.
The confirmation comes from Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. The Redmi K30 will be a successor to the Redmi K20 and will boast of a punch-hole display and 5G support. The Redmi K30 will come with a Samsung Galaxy S10+ like a dual punch-hole selfie camera setup.
In addition to confirming the launch of the Redmi K30, Jun said it will come with dual-mode 5G support for both the SIM slots. However, the CEO didn’t reveal any specification details about the Redmi K30 yet.
Lending further credence to these rumors is the fact that Xiaomi used the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset in the Redmi Note 8 Pro. In the past, Xiaomi had been using Snapdragon 600-series chipsets in the Redmi Note line-up. While the Redmi K series is a lot more premium, there is a possibility of Xiaomi switching to MediaTek even for its flagship smartphones.
Other details of the Redmi K30 series are not known yet.
