Xiaomi launched its new Android One smartphone, the Mi A2 at a launch event in India today, August 8. The company’s head in the country, Manu Kumar Jain revealed that the phone’s key highlights are AI cameras, performance, and design.
Xiaomi Mi A2 is the second Android One handset in India from the brand after Mi A1 and is the rebranded version of Mi 6X. It sports a 5.99-inch FHD+ display supporting 1080 x 2160 pixels with the standard 18:9 aspect ratio. It is protected by 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 5.
Mi A2 is fueled by Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. It runs an optimized stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo with certification of the Android One program of Google.
For the camera, Mi A2 carries a dual rear setup, with a 12 MP primary sensor (Sony IMX486, f1.75 aperture, 1.25-micron pixels), and a 20 MP secondary sensor (Sony IMX376, f1.75 aperture, 2-micron 4-in-1 Super Pixel size). Dual-tone LED flash and PDAF make up for the rest of the rear camera features.
Mi A2 has a front camera, of course, dedicated for selfies, that’s of 20 MP Sony IMX376 sensor with the same aperture, fixed focal length, and Soft-LED flash. The phone also packs a 3,010mAh battery and comes with the Quick Charge 4 fast-charging support.
Among connectivity features, Xiaomi Mi A2 is consisting of 4G LTE, Bluetooth v5.0, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Miracast, an IR emitter, and USB Type-C. It does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. The sensors present are an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor.
As for price, the 4/64GB variant has the tag of Rs 16,999, and it is launched in India. The higher 6/128GB variant will be launched soon.
