After an overall evaluation process, Sony Interactive Entertainment has finally struck a way to support cross-platform features for third-party content. Three months after the issue was raised at e3, Sony broke down its restrictionist policies and kick-started this with the launch of an “extended Fortnite cross-play beta” for the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

The beginning ensures an open beta that will allow cross-platform gameplay progression and commerce across Android/iOS, Nintendo Switch, Windows, and macOS, as well as Xbox. While PlayStation has been the lone adjudicator all along, the Fortnite family is now spread to different platforms.

There has been a lot of agitation among the users for not letting them play with and share their progress across various platforms, despite being available on other versions. Sony has been pretty stubborn about its position that PlayStation is the best place to lay, and there was no need for cross-play with other platforms. There’s no doubt a great feeling in being the market leader in this case because anyone who wants to play with their friends on your platform will need to join up on that platform as well.

For 24 years, we have strived to deliver the best gaming experience to our fans by providing a uniquely PlayStation perspective,” Sony’s statement continues. “Today, the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players. In recognition of this, we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform. – Sony’s blog

It clearly shows a major policy change, and the organization has confessed that they’re in the process of supporting such a change. We can actually hope that other plays will follow Fortnite’s suite and allow cross-platform gameplay. Early candidates are supposed to be Rocket League and Minecraft since both of which have quite extensive cross-play programs.

This relents on Song’s part are remarkable, especially with Epic introducing a new Battle Pass for purchase, which can be leveled up to unlock special cosmetic items and other rewards. Epic Games has been pushing cross-platform for a long time, and now as Fortnite has become a worldwide hit, the software designer will multiply its business.
The cross-play beta will make its debut on PS4 just with the beginning of Fortnite season 6, which is September 27, which is tomorrow. However, we have hardly any concrete news from Epic about what we’re expecting from Season 6. There are a number of teasers that feature a purple cube in the background. The wait will be over tomorrow itself, so let’s look out for it.
