A hearty adieu to Oculus Go as the company pushes the VR revolution forward

In 2018, the all-in-one VR headset Oculus Go made its debut in the tech world. To produce newer techs to the world, the Oculus Go community has decided to introduce Ocular Quest to the series. But this will be done through ending the journey of Oculus Go in spite of its success.

When Oculus Quest set its first step in the gamers’ world, it was widely accepted. VR games like Beat Saber, Dance Central, and The Climb along with PC games like Asgard’s Wrath and Stormland were easy to access through it. The users claimed that 6DOF feels like the future of VR. This made the community to abort further production of 3DOF VR products.

The platform of Oculus Go has bid a hearty goodbye to Oculus Go but there are some important notifications for its continuance. In its place Oculus community will focus on adding more features to Oculus Quest and Rift by ending sales of Oculus Go this very year.

The users who are attached to the Oculus Go and continue using it to a further extent. But sadly Oculus Go will receive no more app updates after the 4th of December, 2020. After the 18th of December, 2020 there will be no more Go apps in the Store. By the end of this year, the shipping of Oculus Go will be aborted. However, it will continue to receive bug fixes and security patches throughout 2022.

Having said this, the Oculus Community is focussing on the distribution of the new Oculus Quest. It is incredible to know that people have shown immense interest in the Quest content and have spent around $100M for them. This has led to the generation of more than 10 titles over $2 M in revenue. Quest will make the company open up a new avenue for the latest VR development.

A lot of developers are eagerly waiting for the distribution of Quest and the community has announced that the process will begin by early 2021. Without even being accepted in the Oculus Store or even sideloading, they can easily share their apps with anyone.

It will need a while for this new Quest to gain hold over users since they are already using Oculus Go, so till then the company urges them to start preparing for Quest. This will make it easier for them to engage with Quest once it is on the platform.
