The Chinese tech giant, Huawei Technologies, which is locked in battle with the U.S. government, had mentioned previously that it will shy away from venturing into new business areas, and will keep its focus on the areas it has already breached. Recently, the company was granted a patent for a “Head-mounted Display Content Capture and Sharing”. The patent publication bears the number CN109076165B, and it was published on February 12.

VR headset (virtual reality head-mounted display device) is a kind of use of head-mounted display devices that encloses people’s vision and hearing from the outside world which, in turn, gives the people an immersive experience where they feel as if they are inside a virtual environment. Usually, VR headsets can be divided into three categories: external headsets, all-in-one headsets, and mobile phone box headsets. Many tech giants who are leading the tech market have their own VR products, including Google, and currently, the most popular VR to dominate the market is the Oculus Quest 2 the sales of which have apparently exceeded 1 million units. There has also been a few rumors that Apple too would soon enter the VR market.

The patent that was granted to Huawei shows that the virtual reality Goggles include a VR body on which multiple cameras are installed. The display is supported by the Goggles-shaped body. The support extends between the sides of the Goggles-shaped main body and includes a plurality of cameras.

The various cameras capture and send the video to the circuit using a connection. Inside the circuit, the video includes a synthetic field of view around the Goggles about 360 degrees. The circuit also sends the received videos from the cameras to a networked processing service by connecting to a wireless communication device. This helps the headset in receiving a stereoscopic 3D virtual reality video from a networked processing service, and the circuit also provides the received stereoscopic 3D virtual reality video for display through a further connection.
