Apple is to rival other market leaders like Bose as the company plans on developing a pair of high-end wireless noise-canceling headphones and could launch them as soon as the end of this year, leaked by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu. But the company has been facing challenges that might push the release date.
The new wireless pairing by Apple was under on and off work over the past year. According to sources, there are possibilities that the designs of the headphones are overhauled before their launch or could be scrapped altogether. The company has confronted similar problems with the HomePod during its development, including multiple redesigns.
These would be the latest products and services from Apple as reports suggest that the Apple high-end headphones will include wireless pairing functionality similar to Apple’s AirPods earbuds that will include Apple’s W1 wireless chip to connect to Apple’s iPhones and iPads more seamlessly than other devices. It is to sound superior to the AirPods as well.
The headphones will bear the Apple logo, which allegedly would bring them in direct competition with the company’s Beats by Dre subsidiary. It sells its own noise-canceling headphones for $350.
The cost of the new headphone is still unknown, but reports suggest that they will not come cheap. If the headphones arrive as expected, they will solidify Apple’s seemingly renewed interest in consumer audio. Last month, Gurman and Kuo highlighted that Apple is also working on new AirPods models, which would likely include easier Siri activation, improved wireless chip, and water resistance.
