Apple Watch’s watchOS 4.3.1 beta 2 has been made available for developer testing. While the version does not introduce many new features, it does outline a warning for older apps. watchOS 4.3.1 beta is the first to reduce support for older apps, which might altogether go away with the launch of a future version of the watchOS, the anticipated watchOS 5, expected to launch later this year.

This app will not work with future versions of watchOS. The developer of this app needs to update it to improve its compatibility.

The warning message especially pertains to those apps which were made for watchOS 1. Starting from 1st April 2018, Apple has mandated that all watchOS app submissions and updates be made for watchOS 2 and the following versions. This is a step intended to sever the dependence of these apps on the iPhones and ensure that the watches can run the apps natively.

watchOS 4.3, officially launched last month, with features like new data sources for the Siri watch face, the return of iPhone music control, and portrait orientation support for Nightstand Mode, has been followed by watchOS 4.3.1.
