Blackberry announced that it is dropping support for Priv, which has been enjoying monthly security updates over the past 2 years. The smartphone was launched in November 2015, and now the two-year support policy of the company has ended.

Blackberry did say that it will keep on fulfilling all warranty obligations for the phone. Additionally, if a user comes across any critical security vulnerability, the company will accordingly provide a fix.

Should a critical vulnerability be exposed we will engage our partners as needed to develop and deliver necessary patches.

Furthermore, they said that they are coming up with a trade-up program for the users of Priv and devices with BB10 and BBOS. This program will provide with incentives and discounts for upgrading the devices to a new Motion or Keyone of the company.

This directs us to convey Blackberry’s confirmation that they will continue providing support to the BBOS and BB10 devices for the next two years.

While this is a good news, the company also said that they “will be closing some ancillary services such as the BlackBerry World app store (12/31/2019), the BlackBerry Travel site (February 2018), and the Playbook video calling service (March 2018)” for the present device owners.

These announcements altogether are seemingly to bring mixed feelings for the Blackberry fans.
