The CEO of OnwardMobility, a company that operates Blackberry phones, Peter Franklin recently in an interview revealed that the company will launch a new Blackberry 5G mobile sometime this year. The upcoming BlackBerry will retain its signature design: the mobile will be equipped with the Blackberry keyboard.

BlackBerry started out of Canada around 2010 and its iconic physical keyboard, and unique system made it instantly popular globally.

BlackBerry went out of fashion, so to speak, back in 2013 when it failed to compete with the then-new smartphones. In 2016, in a new cooperation agreement with TCL BlackBerry Mobile launched several new phones. After the collaboration with TCL, the brand launched a smartphone KEY2 LE that came equipped with a keyboard. The phone featured a 4.5-inch screen and a physical QWERTY keyboard. The space bar of the mobile phone had a fingerprint recognition sensor. Moreover, the mobile phone ran on Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and came with 4GB of memory and 64 GB of memory storage. The mobile phone was launched in 2018, and the pricing was comparatively high, at USD 499.99.

It was only last year that the cooperation between the two companies ended, and OnwardMobility replaced TCL. Apparently, the new company is working with Foxconn to develop a new 5G mobile phone that will come with a physical keyboard. Although the company head had agreed that North America and Europe are important markets for the company, he was quick to mention that the Asian market too is very profitable, and as such, the new BlackBerry 5G mobile will also be launched in several Asian markets.

Although Peter Franklin failed to mention any specific date for the launch of the mobile phone, he is hoping that the company can get on that sooner than expected. The pricing of the mobile too will soon be announced.
